CMP.LY is built on a framework of simple URLs and visual badges that follow an Iconic Compliance model. Each of these URLs and icons represent a specific type of disclosure designed to be easy to read and understand.


Marketing Disclosures

CMP.LY/1 – Review

A disclosure for posts about products or services for which review copies are provided and money is not exchanged.

Use CMP.LY/1 when:

  • Your post is based upon material provided free of charge for review purposes.
  • You have not been paid or otherwise compensated to promote the topic, product or service reviewed in your post.

CMP.LY/2 – Promo

A disclosure for posts about products or services for which incentives such as samples or gifts are given, and money is not exchanged.

Use CMP.LY/2 when:

  • Your post is based on a promotional item you have received at no cost.
  • The item you received was not necessarily provided for review purposes.
  • You have not been paid to review or post about the topic, but you receive promotional consideration, content or incentives.

CMP.LY/3 – Paid

A disclosure for posts about products or services made in return for monetary or other compensation like conference tickets,

Use CMP.LY/3 when:

  • Your post is based upon an advertising relationship.
  • You have been paid to review or post about the product, service, or topic.
  • You receive cash, compensation, or a gift related to the product, service, or topic.

CMP.LY/4 – Business

A disclosure for posts about companies or topics where a material business relationship like an agency, vendor or partner agreement exists.

Use CMP.LY/4 when:

  • You have a material or other type of business relationship to disclose.

CMP.LY/5 – Affiliate

A disclosure for posts containing links to products or services for which the author receives sales commissions or payments in exchange for referrals.

Use CMP.LY/5 when:

  • You have included affiliate links on your page.
  • You will be paid based upon referrals from your page.
  • You want to communicate that an affiliate relationship exists.

 

Specialized Disclosures

CMP.LY/S – Sponsored

A disclosure for content sponsored or produced by a person, company or organization with a commercial interest in the distribution of that content.

Use CMP.LY/S when:

  • You are incentivized to promote digital content on behalf of someone else.
  • You need to reveal the relationship between yourself and the producer of the content you are sharing.

CMP.LY/R – Rules

A disclosure for content that requires fine print, rules or terms and conditions for contests, sweepstakes or special offers.

Use CMP.LY/R when:

  • You are promoting a contest, sweepstakes, or special offer.
  • You need to link to fine print, rules, or terms and conditions.
  • You need to measure responses to your program and track user actions and conversions.

 CMP.LY/A – Agent

A disclosure For posts made by company agents, commissioned and franchise partners and for legal agents of companies related to the topic of a post.

Use CMP.LY/A when:

  • A commission relationship needs to be disclosed.
  • An agent or franchisee relationship needs to be disclosed.
  • You are the legal agent of an individual or company related to the topic of your post.

CMP.LY/E – Employee

A disclosure for posts made by company employees and to indicate employee status in an industry or company related to the topic of a post.

Use CMP.LY/E when:

  • You have an employee relationship to disclose.
  • Your post is subject to a company social media policy.

CMP.LY/I – Investor

A disclosure for posts made by investors in a company or organization related to that post topic.

Use CMP.LY/P when:

  • You have an investment to disclose.
  • Your post is about a company in which you have vested interest.

CMP.LY/F – Finance

A disclosure for posts subject to financial regulation, made by employees of financial services companies, or for posts regarding investor relations.

Use CMP.LY/F when:

  • You are making investor relations communications.
  • Your communications are subject to financial regulation.
  • You need to address SEC, FINRA, or other disclosure regulations.

CMP.LY/H – Health

A disclosure for posts subject to medical, healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing regulations, to issue safety warnings, or to indicate connections to health-related marketing programs.

Use CMP.LY/H when:

  • You need to include healthcare-related disclosures or information.
  • You need to indicate a connection to a brand or program.
  • You need to include safety warnings, information about side effects, or links to more information.

CMP.LY/P – Politics

A disclosure for posts sponsored or produced by a candidate, campaign or other organization with a political interest in the distribution of that content.

Use CMP.LY/P when:

  • You have a political relationship to disclose.
  • Your post is part of a political campaign.

 

Universal Disclosures

CMP.LY/0 – None

An optional disclosure for posts based entirely on opinion, to indicate that the author has no material connection to the product, service or topic of a post.

Use CMP.LY/0 when:

  • Your post contains only your own opinions.
  • You have not been paid to review or post about the topic.
  • You have no material connection to the topic of your post.

CMP.LY/Custom – Custom

A disclosure for posts that require unique disclosure, or for when a standard disclosure cannot describe or explain the relationship.

Use CMP.LY/Custom when:

  • Your situation is not covered by other CMP.LY disclosures.
  • You need to add more detail to your specific disclosure.
